Godric was simply taking a light walk the first weekend after classes had begun this year. It was a morning like any other, the air was clear, and the sun was just starting to rise. Normally Godric would take a walk back when the school first opened around this time, and for a second, he almost forgot the current predicament. He took a stretch as he remembered the new clothing he had been given, the odd fabrics grating against his skin. Such itchy clothing these people had. He much preferred his older clothes, but apparently, he was not supposed to wear those types often as people would look at him differently. Of course, that would mean he would stick out, and who didn’t like attention? He chuckled to himself at the thought of all the eyes on him. Beautiful women, jealous men, and all those in between. He always liked to be the center of attention.
However, in the middle of his chuckle he saw a figure in the distance. Curious, normally he was the only one awake at this hour and walking about the grounds. Regardless, he shrugged it off at least for the time being. They were far away from him and he didn’t see any reason to interrupt his walk to ask them what they were doing – by the lord, they could just be taking a walk like he was doing! Who was he to know that he would be the only one during this day taking a walk?
Several minutes passed and soon Godric happened upon the area that the figure had been standing near – the figure was gone by now having scurried off moments ago, leaving behind a heap of clothes. How dare they litter the grounds of Hogwarts! Godric hurried forward, cursing under his breath as he approached the heap of clothes, planning on using a spell to find the owner. However, when he got nearer, he realized it wasn’t just a heap of clothes.
His eyes widened and he quickened his pace, falling to the ground near the heap. It wasn’t just clothes, someone didn’t just litter – there was a body here. His hands went to the neck of the poor soul in front of him, but he felt nothing. He flicked his wand to notify the headmistress. Nearby the body there was a red symbol, a skull and crossbones burned into the ground next to them. He didn’t know what it meant, but upon closer inspection, he found that this person’s body before him – well he saw them in his studies to bring him up to date.
It was the body of a young Albus Dumbledore, a young man who hadn’t even been reported as being revived at this point. Pulling out a cross he wore around his neck, he began a prayer as back then even the magical folk were quite religious like most of the country.
Terror. That was the way Godric could describe the look on the boy’s face. He quickly closed the boy’s eyes and looked up, around. He’d lost track of time – he could see the headmistress running from the castle but also students had begun to leave the castle looking for a place to relax or study – or something like that for their first weekend.
Old fashioned as he was, he didn’t realize that the headmistress would want to hide this, but he didn’t send out an announcement as he didn’t want to make one without the headmistress here. However, due to his inaction, several students saw him on his knees, approaching and soon a whole crowd appeared as McGonagall pushed her way through.
“Back away students, back away.” She shot Godric a glare, but he didn’t realize why – assuming she thought it was him.
“I know how this must look like, but I did not do this –“
“Yes, yes, I know, Godric. Please, try to keep the students away as much as possible.”This woman was being quite impetuous as if he had done something wrong! However, he stood and gave her a bow as the proper man he was, and he began to beckon the students away a bit.
“There is no need for alarm, things like this happen all the time.”
There was a scoff and a young black-haired man spoke up. “Maybe from where you’re from, but Hogwarts is supposed to be safe. Not even the Dark Lord hurt anyone here.” Godric narrowed his eyes at the speaker, recognizing him as another revived person – Severus Snape. In fact, he had him in class this last week.
“Yes, well,” Godric’s mind raced as he tried to find the right words, “It’s nothing to worry about, give the man room so his soul may depart in peace and our Headmistress can discover what happened here.”
Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?
