History
[attr="class","invisscroll"]1967 | Benjamin William Rainier was born in the village of Èze, located in southwestern France. His parents, Thomas and Emma Rainier were both half-blood wizards who had attended Beauxbatons together and both worked for a newspaper for the magical community in France.
1974 | The Rainier family visited England due to the rising evil of Lord Voldemort. There, his father Thomas fell in love with a muggleborn, Anna Wright, and left Emma for Miss Wright. At the start, Ben lived with his mother in France, but it wasn't long before his mother sent him to live with his father saying it was too hard to raise him on her own. He felt abandoned by his mother, and he disliked his father due to him leaving to be with some other woman.
1978 | Ben began attending Hogwarts, excited to leave home and his father - able to try to forget his mother who ignored every letter he had sent her over the past four years. He was sorted into Ravenclaw and honestly he was quite happy. That entire first year was the best year of his life. He made friends and stayed at Hogwarts for Halloween, Christmas and all the other holidays.
1979 | His step-mother Anna fell ill. Ben didn't really feel much for her, but when he saw how upset his dad became, it began to upset little 12 year old Ben as well. At school that year he studied healing with Madame Pomfrey, though not officially. Mostly he just stuck around the hospital wing and watched her work. In potions he attempted to learn more about the healing abilities of potions. Alas, it was all for naught as by the winter Anna was murdered by a pair of Death Eaters, the work he did completely useless. His father fell into a deep depression and soon Ben threw himself further into his studies.
1980 | He rarely spoke to his friends during his third year, mostly studying and writing in his free times. Flitwick, the head of house at the time, met with him and attempted to help Benjamin deal with his feelings and understand what was going on with the young student - sure he was doing great in classes, but his social life was gone and he seemed quite empty even in classes. Before he was an animated boy, now he was as if a dementor sucked out his soul.
1981 | Halloween of this year Voldemort was defeated, and while Ben didn't care much for the war, it made his father feel at least a bit better that Anna's killers were brought in finally. Regardless, he continued to act as if he was some sort of soulless robot. At least until Easter of his fourth year, technically 1982, when his mother showed up at Hogwarts randomly and insisted on seeing her son. When he saw her, at first he felt happy, but then an anger burst forth. He rejected his mother saying he didn't want to talk to her as she didn't want to talk to him for nearly 7 years.
1982 | Ben began to receive letters from his mother almost every week asking about his life and updating him on her life. She hadn't remarried, but she had started a job for the French Ministry of Magic as someone in the International Cooperation department. Mostly Ben read the letters and then threw them into a trunk never to look at again. At this point it was his fifth year and he hadn't really any friends since the end of his second year at Hogwarts.
It was during the summer before beginning his fifth year when tragedy struck once more. His mother's letters stopped and soon he was sent a letter by a colleague of hers saying a rogue death eater who ran to France to escape imprisonment had gotten to her, and while attempting to erase her memory of their meeting, erased all of her memories. Ben quickly went to France to see his mother who remembered nothing but the basics - how to speak, a few spells, but nothing of her life and everything that had happened. Ben went through her house and found all of his letters, including unsent replies to every single one of them. He gave them to the woman who remembered nothing and had to leave for school. He began to act more like a kid again, but it was slow. He didn't really understand how to socialize properly as he had lost many formative years in how to act around others. Many thought he was odd, but some friends had come his way eventually.
1985 | In the spring of 1985, Ben graduated from Hogwarts and began to study under the Law Enforcement department in the British Ministry of Magic, even though his father wanted him to become an author. His father had found many of Ben's writings over the years and thought he would be a fantastic fiction writer. Alas, he did what he wanted, as he was an adult and driven. He began to learn everything he could about memories - how to bring them back, which was nearly impossible - and how to take them away.
1991 | Finally in a full time position as an obliviator, he began his career, writing on the side but never showing anyone. He had several colleagues who he considered friends, but he was still quite awkward and didn't really socialize too well. Mostly he stuck to his work.
1991 - Present | Ben mostly stayed out of the war, simply doing what his boss told him to do. During the year Voldemort was in charge he erased many memories he didn't think needed erasing, such as poor muggle borns who were just trying to survive, but he did his job and simply shrunk into the background. There was nothing he could do after all. After the battle at Hogwarts which he was no part of, he kept his job under the new administration, thought he minister didn't quite like how complacent he was during the last administration. Regardless when people started being revived, Ben decided that there was a possibility that he could make up for his not doing anything - perhaps he could help people who were revived fit in better - and in the process learn more about how to act around people.
